Frequently Asked Questions
What size should a Discord emoji be?
Discord custom emoji display in chat at 32×32 pixels but require an upload size of 128×128 pixels for crisp rendering on high-DPI screens. Animated emoji use the same dimensions. The emoji must be a PNG file and is recommended to be under 256 KB.
Do Discord emoji need a transparent background?
Discord does not require transparency, but most custom emoji use it so the emoji blends with chat backgrounds. This tool outputs PNG which supports transparency — any transparent areas in your source image are preserved.
Why is the output PNG instead of JPG?
Discord rejects emoji uploads in JPG format — emoji must be PNG. JPG would also destroy any transparency in your image. PNG is lossless, so your emoji will look identical to the source after upload.
Can I upload animated emoji?
Animated emoji require a Discord Nitro subscription and must be APNG or GIF files under 256 KB. This tool outputs a static PNG, which works for both Nitro and free servers. For animated emoji, prepare the first frame here and convert it to APNG separately.
How do I add the emoji to my Discord server?
You need the Manage Emoji and Stickers permission. Open your server settings, go to Emoji, click Upload Emoji, and select the downloaded PNG file. Only Nitro boosters and users with available emoji slots can upload to servers they don't own.
Will my photo metadata be removed?
Yes. All EXIF metadata including GPS location, camera model, and timestamp are automatically stripped from your output PNG. Your processed image contains only the visual data.
